Simple and easy troubleshooting instructions to fix HP OfficeJet 6950

  • As the first step of troubleshooting your HP OfficeJet 6950 printer issue, restart the printer. To do so, turn off your printer completely. Disconnect the power cord from your printer’s power port. Reconnect the cord into the printer and turn it on.
  • Check to ensure that your printer and the PC or laptop are connected to the same network securely.
  • Make sure that your PC or laptop (Windows or Mac) meets the minimum system requirements of the printer.
  • Similarly, make sure that the printer’s physical or hardware setup is completed.
  • If you’re encountering the issue over a wireless network, disable the firewall or security software installed on your computer to avoid the Wi-Fi connectivity issue.

If these simple troubleshooting instructions don’t resolve your printer issue, print a printer report to know the exact cause of the problem.

  • On your printer’s Home screen, tap on the Setup icon or menu.
  • Select the Tools option from the list.
  • Tap on the Printer Status Report option.
  • Now, your HP printer will start to print its current status report.
  • After your printer prints the report, use it to check your printer’s current status, cartridge status, etc.
  • Also, check if any error message is mentioned in the report. If yes, perform the necessary steps to fix the issue.

Now, let’s see the troubleshooting methods for some specific printer problems.

Issue 1: Printer shuts down unexpectedly

Troubleshooting

  • Unplug and reconnect the power cord if it is not connected properly.
  • Check whether the cartridge that you’re using is damaged or incompatible. If yes, replace the damaged or incompatible cartridge with a new one.

Issue 2: Printhead alignment fails

  • Firstly, make sure that you have placed the printed alignment page with its print-side facing down on the scanner glass.
  • Secondly, check if you have loaded the plain and unused paper into the input tray of your printer. If not, remove them and load the correct paper type into the input tray.
  • Clean the printhead if necessary. To do so, go to the Setup screen of your printer. Select Tools > Clean Printhead or Align Printer. Clean the printhead by following the instructions displayed on the screen.
  • If the cleaning process also doesn’t resolve the issue, replace the printhead.

Issue 3: Paper Jam

  • As soon as a paper is jammed, the printer stops performing the current print, scan, or copy job and displays the Paper Jam message on its screen.
  • To resolve the Paper Jam issue, look for the jammed paper in the important parts of your printer.
  • During the search, if you find any jammed paper, remove it carefully.
  • After removing the jammed paper from your printer, reload the paper into the input tray and print a test page.

Similarly, perform the necessary steps to resolve your printer issue. In case the troubleshooting methods fail to fix the problem, restore your printer settings to factory defaults.

  • On the Setup screen, select the Tools option.
  • Scroll down the Tools screen and tap on the Restore Factory Default option.
  • Complete the rest of the restore process by following the on-screen instructions.
  • After restoring your printer settings to default, reconfigure them and print a test page to check whether the issue is resolved.
